3G2    Newsletter       SUMMER 2

 

We would like to welcome everyone back to school for the final term of the year.   

 

This term we are learning about:

 

Literacy and Language

 

Our Literacy and language theme this half term is Play scripts.  Our main story, A Tune of Lies allows the children to explore the features of a play and act out the story in small groups.  The children will then write a new scene in collaboration with their group.

 

Topic

We will be exploring Rivers and Mountains and focussing on the North American country of Mexico. We will be exploring the country, its culture and tasting delicious food.

 

Mathematics

This half term the children will to study addition, subtraction and problem solving including the areas of time and money.  They will explore shapes and measures and data-handling.

For Your Information:

 

This term the children will continue to take part in PE on Wednesday afternoons.  There will be no PE sessions for children on Monday morning.

Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school, consisting of shorts and a t-shirt.  

All children in 3G2 will take part in swimming lessons on Thursday and will need to be provided with swimwear, goggles, a towel and a large bag to fit their school uniform whilst at the pool. 

 

Reading books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays whenever possible.

Please sign the reading record to say your child has read to an adult so it can be changed.

 

This half term Homework will involve completing a variety of tasks relating to various areas of the curriculum and will be handed out on Fridays to be completed before the following Thursday

We would like to welcome everyone back to school for the summer term. 

 

We are Learning about:

 

Literacy and Language

 

Our Literacy and language theme this half term is Mystery Stories.  Our main story, Smash and Grab allows the children to discuss and solve clues to find the culprit of a burglary at a museum.  The children will then write their own mystery story with clues and red herrings.

 

Topic

 

We will be exploring the Golden Age of Islam.  We will begin the topic with listening to the stories from the ‘1001 Arabian Nights’ and  writing our own story which will be the 1002nd Arabian night story.  The children will be learning about the five pillars of Islam, how Muslims pray, what the Quran is and the Prophet Mohammed’s teachings.  We will also learn about Muslim inventors, Islamic art, patterns and symmetry.  We will talk about why Baghdad  was important at that time and find out why people went on crusades.

3G2    Newsletter       SPRING 2

 

 

The staff in 3G2 would like to say how proud we were of the children’s excellent behaviour during our recent trip to Murton Park, Viking village.  We all had a wonderful time and the children said it was the best trip they had ever been on.   During the day the children had the opportunity to experience the life of a Viking through a variety of activities.

 

 

We are learning about:

 

Literacy and Language

 

Our Literacy and language theme this half term is Science Fiction.  Our main story named A Tale of Two Robots. The children will write a new episode for the story.

 

Topic

 

Our whole school topic this half term is The World’s Kitchen and we will be exploring the geography, animals and foods of South America.  We are looking forward to our trip to the Wildlife Park.  The children will be using a range of skills, including ICT to create a storybook based on the style of Eric Carle. 

 

Our Science topic is carefully linked to our topic and is named Humans and other animals.

We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to school for the Spring term. 

 

We are Learning about:

 

Literacy and Language

 

Our Literacy and language theme this half term is related to myths and legends from other cultures.  Our main story, The Enchantress of the Sands is a story from Botswana.  The children will write their own fantastical versions of the story.

 

Topic

 

Our whole school topic this half term is Colossal Cultures.  We will be exploring the lives and cultures of the Vikings and Anglo Saxons.  The children are looking forward to researching the Viking and Anglo Saxon Kings and Queens. They will use drama to explore the law, crimes and punishments in the Early middle ages.

We are Learning about:

Language and Literacy

The children have been working very hard during their first week back after half term.  In they have been reading and reciting different kinds of poems.  We will be writing our own poems and learning about the water cycle.

 

Topic:

Our whole school topic this half term is Royals and Rebels.  We will be exploring the life and times of the Romans and Celts.  We are looking forward to welcoming a visitor to school next week to help us to become better Roman citizens and support our role play of a battle between the Romans and Celts.

This half term the children will be studying number and place value, addition, subtraction and problem solving including the areas of time and money.  They will explore shape, position and direction too.

3G2    Newsletter

Autumn Term 1

 

Dear Parents 

Welcome to 3G2.

Staff working in your child's class are Mrs McGowan (class teacher), Miss Emmett and Mr Mainard.  We are also very fortunate to have Mrs Boyd who joins us on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Friday afternoons as a volunteer helper.

 

The children have come to the end of their first week in Year 3 and are settling in very well. 

 

Topic: Our whole school topic this half term is Crazy Climates. We will be studying the U.S.A. and looking closely at tornadoes and hurricanes.  Our class book for this half term is written by the author Ross Montgomery and is called the Tornado Chasers.

Science : Our theme for this half term is Forces and Magnets.  The children will explore the properties of magnetic materials and forces.  They will explore a range of everyday materials and identify those that are magnetic.

Art: We will be exploring the paintings of Van Gogh’s Swirls and creating our own versions based on the Eye of the storm.
