Welcome back for the final half term in year 5.
I hope you all had a fantastic half term break. I am really impressed with how enthusiastic and hard working the children have been since they returned to school. Keep up the good work! Thank you for supporting us in striving to improve behaviour across school. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you how important attendance is in ensuring your child continues make progress.
It has been a packed year and we still have lots of exciting opportunities and experiences to look forward to! This half term our topic in Year 5 is ‘The Olympic Games'. The children will be learning about many different aspects of The Olympic Games such as its history and how it has changed over time, significant events and athletes, as well as previous Games and the upcoming Rio Olympics. Alongside this, as part of our work linked to the Olympics we will be joining the rest of the school in “running to Rio”. The distance from Leeds to Rio is 5,848 miles. Between Monday 13th June and Sunday 10th July, we will be challenging ourselves to collectively cover that distance.
This half term, our PE day is Thursday and Friday (some children will have additional activities they are taking part in which will require PE kit). Lessons will continue to be outside. Even though it is approaching the summer, we would advise sending the children in with jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt, as well as suitable clothing for warmer weather. Trainers are essential for all PE lessons.
Please make a note of the following important dates:
Thursday 30th June – Sports Day
Thursday 7th July – End of year reports sent to parents
Wednesday 27th July – School closes for the Summer Holiday
Wednesday 7th September – School opens to children for the new school year
