We have enjoyed practicing our times table facts using arrays to link to area and measures, and will use our work to create a new display as part of our Maths working wall. Problem solving and reasoning will be the focus of our Maths lessons and we will be using all of our Richmond Hill Ready components to bring our best to each lesson.
Mathletics and Reading Eggspress
School pays for access to these websites to help with home learning. As well as being accessible on tablets, laptops and computers, many of the activities can also be accessed on smartphones. Alternatively, if you would prefer your child to access these in school, we do have homework clubs available after school. Please speak to Miss Clunie if you would like your child to attend.
We will be looking upwards towards the planets this term, and have an exciting Planetarium experience in school for Year 5 in the next couple of weeks. Many of the planets in our Solar System are visible at night. If you have a smartphone, there are several free sky maps available which make it easy to identify planets, constellations and phases of the moon. We will be sending topic home learning so please encourage your child to participate fully in this subject. They may be the next Tim Peak!
Get Well Soon
Just to update you on Mr Keddie's progress; he has had his knee operations and is limping around home, getting very bored. We are hoping he will be back in school soon this term. The class are working well with Mr Keddie's temporary replacement and Miss Clunie on some afternoons.
We've had a great start to the new school year in 5T3, your children have been a credit to you. Thank you for dressing your children so smartly. All children have been on time so far so please keep this up as it is so important.
In literacy we will be focusing on Myths and Legends, exploring their content and creating a modern version of a Myth. We will be looking at SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) in different picture books, improving our skills as we go.
Our topic is World War 2 so we will be reading a play 'Bombs and Blackberries' by Julia Donaldson for our class book and Guided Reading.
In Maths we will be focusing on Place Value and number. Your child will be set homework tasks on 'Mathletics'. This is best accessed on a laptop but you can also do so on tablets and smart phones. Once the App has been downloaded via Wifi you can then use Mathletics even though you don't have an internet connection. Please let your child access this.
Please reinforce a high standard of manners in your child as these are the expectations we have at Richmond Hill school. One thing I dislike is lying. We all make mistakes and that is how we learn. If your child makes a mistake or a poor decision I much prefer it if they admit it first time rather than lying and making it worse.
Every job your child is aspiring to have when they are older requires good reading skills. Your child will have the opportunity to bring a book home each night so help remind them to read and sign their reading record book. At least once a week it would be great if you could hear them read and sign their book. The more they read the more chance they will have to earn a special Friday reading award.
If you want to talk to me about any concerns you have my door is always open. Please catch me at the end of the day or tell the office and I will ring or meet you.
