Spring 1 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful holiday and are feeling refreshed!

The Year 6 team this year consists of Mr Maher, Miss McIntyre and a number of experienced support staff. We are all looking forward to working with your children this year! Please feel free to come and talk to us in the playground after school if you have any concerns or questions.

Year 6 Residential

As you already know, the children in Year 6 are going to the Kingswood Outdoor Adventure for their residential trip this half term (October 10th – 12th). This is great opportunity for them to experience some fantastic activities to challenge them and encourage both team work and independence. More details about the trip will follow in the next couple of weeks (including a kit list).

SATs

In the week beginning 8th May 2017, the children will be sitting their end of Key Stage 2 Sats tests. We will ensure that the children are as best prepared as they can be for their tests and appreciate your help and support with this.

PE

PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Thursday for Mr Maher’s class (6M2) and on Wednesday and Friday for Miss McIntyre’s class (6M1). Pupils will need to remember their school PE kit on these days.

Homework

From next week we will be setting homework online using Mathletics and Reading Eggs/ Reading Express. This will be set on Wednesday to be completed by the following Wednesday. There will be an opportunity for children to complete tasks at lunchtimes or in an afterschool club (details to follow).

Reading

All pupils will be receiving a reading record book which they will use in school to track how often they are reading. Once pupils are used to how to fill them in they will then start bringing them home so they can show how often they are reading out of school. Reading with/to an adult helps pupils develop their understanding of what they have read and so we would appreciate it if you could spend some time listening to and talking about the book your child is reading.

Hometime

As you have probably seen it gets quite busy outside the doors at hometime, so please could you wait on the playground away from the doors and we will bring the pupils to you.

As mentioned above, if you have any questions or concerns please come and speak to us and we look forward to having a great year working together!
