Nursery

Dear Parents/ Carers,

We hope you had a lovely half term break. Last half term we enjoyed learning about growing and minibeasts and we loved transforming our go kart into a butterfly! Our Nursery video can be viewed on the Richmond Hill you tube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOfDF3-qW7I

This half term we are learning about holidays, the seaside and England. If possible, we would like you to bring in a photograph of your child on holiday.

We will be preparing the children for their transition into Reception this half term. Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible at home, particularly with dressing and undressing themselves. We would appreciate it if you could encourage your child to practise putting on and taking off their own coat and shoes.

This half term we are looking forward to the Richmond Hill carnival to celebrate the end of term. We will be learning about England. If you feel that there is anything that you could bring in to support this topic it would be greatly appreciated.

During this summer term we ask that you provide your child with a sunhat so that they can engage in outdoor play. Please remember to put a name inside so that we know who each hat belongs to. We also encourage you to apply suncream before they attend nursery. Please also bring a named water bottle so that your child can help themselves to water during the nursery session.

Reminders

Please remember to put a name label in all of your children’s clothing that they wear for nursery.

We would appreciate it if you could let us know when someone new/ different is picking your child up from Nursery. This is to ensure your child’s safety.

If you have any spare clothes that you would like to donate please give them to a nursery member of staff.

Thank you,

Mrs Wood

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome back from the Easter break. We hope you had a lovely holiday. Last half term we enjoyed learning about farm animals in Nursery and we all had a fantastic time on our trip to Temple Newsam Farm.

This half term we are learning about plants/ growing and minibeasts. We are looking forward to growing some plants of our own to take home. You can support your child by showing them seeds and plants at home. You could also enjoy minibeast hunting outdoors. If you do any growing or minibeast hunting at home it would be great to see some photographs of your children joining in.

We will also continue to work with children to encourage them to write their names, count to 10 and beyond and recognise simple 2D shapes and colours within the nursery environment. We have started to follow the beginnings of the read write ink phonics program in nursery and we are learning to recognise some sounds. You can help your child at home by encouraging them to recognise sounds and hear the initial sound in their name and other familiar names.

We will also be following the school theme of ‘wacky races’ and we will enjoy joining in with the other children in school by making a go kart and participating in races.

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Last week in Nursery we all enjoyed learning about pirates. We all played on our new pirate ship in our new outdoor learning environment and we had lots of fun!

This half term in Nursery we will be learning about farm and pet animals. We will be listening to stories about animals and singing animal rhymes and songs. You can support your child by singing Old McDonald had a farm with them.

As part of our farm animals topic we will be going on an exciting trip to Temple Newsam farm on Tuesday 24th March. The trip will be open to all nursery pupils and will take place in the morning so the afternoon session will be cancelled on that day. Children who attend at the end of the week are welcome to come in for the trip. A letter with more detail and a consent form will be given out soon.

We will also be following the school theme of ‘The Worlds Kitchen’ and we will enjoy tasting different foods. We are keen to encourage children to try a variety of foods from different countries. If any parents would like to bring in foods from home for the children to try we would be very grateful. Please speak to a member of Nursery staff if you feel that you can help with this.

Reminders

Please remember to put a name label in all of your children’s clothing that they wear for nursery, in particular in coats, jackets, scarves, hats and gloves.

We would appreciate it if you could let us know when someone new/ different is picking your child up from Nursery. This is to ensure your child’s safety.

Welcome to The Nursery Class!

Spring term 2015

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Happy New Year! We hope that you had a lovely Christmas and New Year Break.

This half term in Nursery we will be following school’s colossal cultures topic by learning about houses and homes, buildings and materials. We will be reading the three little pigs, Handa’s surprise and Hansel and Gretel. We will be encouraging the children to think about the buildings and homes that they live in but also appreciate that people live in various different sorts of homes around the world.

This week we have been reading the story of the three little pigs. The children have really enjoyed hearing the story and watching it on the smart board. We have been making big and little houses using sticks, bricks and straw! We have been learning about the number 3 and we have been looking at the sound ‘p.’ We are learning that p is for pig and pirate.

Reminders

Please remember to put a name label in all of your children’s clothing that they wear for nursery, in particular in coats, jackets, scarves, hats and gloves.

Dear Parents,

In Nursery our topic for the first half term was ‘Ourselves and Autumn.’ We all settled in well and are now used to the nursery rules and routines. We learnt about how we are all special and we talked about our homes and who lives in our houses.

For the first week of this half term we learnt about Bonfire Night and keeping safe. We learnt a lovely song about bonfire night and we enjoyed making fireworks out of play dough and making bonfire pictures. This half term we are following the school theme ‘royals and rebels.’ In Nursery we are focusing on princes and princesses. We are looking forward to dressing up and making castles, shields and crowns.

In Nursery we do lots of fun activities to help us develop our number skills. We are learning to count to 10, recognise some numbers and we are beginning to understand the difference between ‘more’ and ‘less.’ We are also learning about shapes and colours.

We enjoy listening to stories and talking about them. We enjoy mark making and we are now beginning to give meaning to our marks. We are developing our communication and language skills and we have lots of opportunities to develop our speech. This half term we have a company called ‘Chatterbug’ working with us in school to help children who need extra support with speech and language. We need consent from nursery parents so that your child can be screened to see if they need speech and language intervention. If you have not signed a form yet please speak to a nursery member of staff about this.

Reminders

Please remember to put a name label in all of your children’s clothing that they wear for nursery, in particular in coats, jackets, scarves, hats and gloves.

We would appreciate it if you could let us know when someone new or different is picking your child up from Nursery. This is to ensure your child’s safety.

If you have any spare clothes which no longer fit your child we would be very grateful to have them as spares for nursery.

Thank you,

Mrs Wood

Nursery Teacher
