Our Minibeast Hunt

RG3 Newsletter February 2016

Welcome back. We hope you and your children enjoyed the half term holiday. This term our topic is World’s Kitchen. At the moment we are focusing on healthy eating and farming so that children understand where our food comes from. Excitingly, we will be having a visit from a mobile farm on Wednesday 9th March. After that we will be looking at food in different countries such as Italy and China. If there are any parents who are particularly knowledgeable about Italian or Chinese cuisine or food in general, please let me know as we would love it if you came in and spoke to the class.

Next Thursday (3rd March) is World Book Day. Your child should have already received a book token and a free book, please let me know if they haven’t. Children are invited to celebrate the day by dressing up as their favourite book character and bringing their favourite book into school.

The children are continuing to make progress in their areas of learning and have already impressed me this week by writing shopping lists and learning about coins. Any extra encouragement at home to read, write, count, draw, use money etc is brilliant, and children are welcome to share their home learning with the class.

Important Dates

  • World Book day Thursday 3rd March.
  • Mobile Farm in school Wednesday 9th March.
  • Parents evening Thursday 10th March.
  • School is closed to children for a staff training day on Thursday 24th March.

Happy New Year!

Firstly, thank you for your help in providing children with costumes for the Christmas Nativity, it was greatly appreciated. We hope you enjoyed the performance! Also thank you for attending and purchasing things at the school Christmas fair, the money raised has been spent on some new toys for our classroom.

We have now said a sad goodbye to Miss Jasper as she has returned to university to complete her teaching degree. I’m sure she will pop in and say hi to the children if she ever has any free time!

The children have now returned to school full of tales of exciting Christmas adventures. Thankfully they have returned calmly, well rested and ready to learn! I’ve been really impressed by how well they remember all their sounds in phonics, so thank you to those of you who have clearly helped their children with reading and writing over the holidays.  This half term we are going to be learning all about space, followed by dinosaurs and possibly Cavemen if we have time. We will also touch on Valentine’s Day just before the next holiday.  In maths we will be focussing on shape, addition and subtraction.

I hope you agree that your children have made some fantastic progress in their learning since September, and I am really excited to see how they continue to progress this term. Always feel free to come in and ask any of the staff about our learning and progress.

Reminders:

  • PE is still on Mondays. Please make sure kit suitable for all weathers is in school.
  • Books are changed on Mondays but bookbags may be needed every day for letters etc.
  • Parents are welcome to contribute to learning journeys- please show me any photos/work from home you would like putting into these.

Many thanks,

Miss Pugh & Mr Bellas

RG3 Newsletter November 2015

Firstly thank you for a fantastic first half term in Reception. The children came in ready and willing to learn and have now all settled in brilliantly, showing an excellent understanding of our rules and routines. Well done! The Baseline assessments have all been completed and analysed so we now have a clear understanding of the children’s abilities and how to help them progress.

This half term is set to be a very busy one in Reception! I would like to start by introducing you all to Miss Jasper, a final year student teacher who will be doing the majority of teaching in RG3 until Christmas.

The children will continue to develop their knowledge of maths, literacy, art, the world etc through play based provision linked to our topics. This half term we are learning about ‘Royals and Rebels’. We will be focussing on castle based stories such as Jack and the beanstalk, Cinderella and Frozen. In addition, we will also discuss any events which arise at this time of year such as Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance Day and Christmas.

Our Read, Write Inc lessons are now well underway; children will be learning a new sound every day. We have already learnt m, a, s, t, d so please help your child to read and write these sounds at home. They are also learning to blend combinations of these sounds in order to read whole words e.g. m-a-t, mat. Please refer to the handout from parent’s evening or come and speak to a member of staff if you would like some help. Thank you for your support in this.

Quick Reminders

  • Reading books are changed on Monday’s, please ensure they are in school.
  • PE is also on Monday. Lessons are conducted outside so please make sure your child has suitable clothing for all weathers. All PE kit should also be clearly named.
  • Parents are welcome to contribute to the children’s learning journey books. Please provide us with any photos or examples of learning that the children have done at home/elsewhere if you would like it to be included.
  • Our trip to Stockheld Park is on Thursday 3rd December. Thank you to those of you who have already signed and returned permission slips and the £15. The deadline for this is Monday 16th November.
  • The Reception Christmas Nativity is on Wednesday 16th December. We will provide information about tickets nearer the time, but for now we apologise if your child comes home singing Christmas songs in November!

Thank you for your continued support. Remember all members of staff are available at 8.50am or 3.15pm if you would like to talk to us.
