Year 6 Rowling - Mr Singh

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to the final half term for Year 6! We have lots of exciting things planned for your child’s last couple of months at primary school.

Our topic for this term is ‘the Local Area’ and in Science we will be looking at ‘Light’. If you have any photos or information about Richmond Hill and Leeds City Centre that your child could share with us in class, that would be most appreciated!

PE lessons will take place on Thursdays this half term. Pupils will need to remember their school PE kit on these days.

Homework is online using Mathletics and Reading Eggs/ Reading Express.

SATs Results

We were incredibly impressed by, and proud of, the children during SATs week. They all tried their hardest and whatever the outcome is, we know that they have made good progress this year. We will receive the SATs results at the start of July and you will be informed of them as soon as possible.

We will be going on three trips this half term. The first will be a local walk related to our topic work. The second is to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on June 28th and the third is to Headingley Cricket Ground on Thursday 20th July. You will receive letters about each trip separately.

Both classes will be performing a play this half term. 6M2 will have their perfomance of ‘Lies’ on Friday 23rd June at 1.45pm (which will be an outdoor performance) and 6M1 will have their performance of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on Wednesday 19th July at 9.15am and this will be followed by an end of year assembly. All parents are invited to both performances.

We will be doing lots of work in school around your child’s transition to secondary school. Please let us know of any transition days that you child has been invited to.

If you have any questions or concerns please come and speak to us.

Miss McIntyre and Mr Maher

Spring 2 Newsletter

Spring 1 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful holiday and are feeling refreshed!

The Year 6 team this year consists of Mr Maher, Miss McIntyre and a number of experienced support staff. We are all looking forward to working with your children this year! Please feel free to come and talk to us in the playground after school if you have any concerns or questions.

Year 6 Residential

As you already know, the children in Year 6 are going to the Kingswood Outdoor Adventure for their residential trip this half term (October 10th – 12th). This is great opportunity for them to experience some fantastic activities to challenge them and encourage both team work and independence. More details about the trip will follow in the next couple of weeks (including a kit list).

In the week beginning 8th May 2017, the children will be sitting their end of Key Stage 2 Sats tests. We will ensure that the children are as best prepared as they can be for their tests and appreciate your help and support with this.

PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Thursday for Mr Maher’s class (6M2) and on Wednesday and Friday for Miss McIntyre’s class (6M1). Pupils will need to remember their school PE kit on these days.

From next week we will be setting homework online using Mathletics and Reading Eggs/ Reading Express. This will be set on Wednesday to be completed by the following Wednesday. There will be an opportunity for children to complete tasks at lunchtimes or in an afterschool club (details to follow).

All pupils will be receiving a reading record book which they will use in school to track how often they are reading. Once pupils are used to how to fill them in they will then start bringing them home so they can show how often they are reading out of school. Reading with/to an adult helps pupils develop their understanding of what they have read and so we would appreciate it if you could spend some time listening to and talking about the book your child is reading.

As you have probably seen it gets quite busy outside the doors at hometime, so please could you wait on the playground away from the doors and we will bring the pupils to you.

As mentioned above, if you have any questions or concerns please come and speak to us and we look forward to having a great year working together!
